Sound
It is possible to listen to music on the G-Databar. You can start the Winamp clone xmms from the menu in the Multimedia heading. From here you can play mp3-files, or listen to m3u-streams from online (for instance from shoutcast). If you wish to play a movie, or local music file, it can be advantageous to use ROX, which can be found in the menu under Desktop Environment. Just click on a music- or movie file, and the appropriate program will be started - with sound.
If you wish to run a program with sound manually you need to do it on the machine controlling your session - that is, gray1, when you're logged in on a terminal. The best way to do this is to start a terminal on this host (from the menu). Programs that are started from this terminal will then be able to use the speakers in the screen. You should however try to run as few programs as possible on gray1, as this server is only for handling the terminals, and not for more CPU intensive tasks.
Please note, that you should always be considerate of the other users in the databar, and that it's not allowed to use sound before 17:00.
If you're connecting from a remote connection, please see the page on Remote Sound.
